About Master of Business Administration

MBA in Management
The MBA program at CBU offers a multidisciplinary curriculum that promotes knowledge across multiple areas critical to effective leadership and management. Students gain understanding of key business principles in finance and accounting, change management, business modeling and research, technology, innovation, leadership, organizational dynamics, marketing, strategy, international business and more.
MBA courses are also designed to prepare ethical and effective, leaders to create and shape organizations and to become responsible, accountable members of their communities and the world at large. CBU MBA graduates share an understanding of the positive impact they can have on the people they work with, as well as the importance of earning the trust of shareholders and stakeholders.
MBA in Accounting
CBU's MBA in Accounting was designed for students with undergraduate degrees in accounting who would like to obtain their Certified Public Accountant licensure. The program fulfills California's 150-hour requirement and satisfies the licensure requirements of most other states.
International Business Experience
Beginning in Fall 2013, tuition will include a trip overseas to either Europe or Asia for an international business experience. Students will learn about conducting business across borders and grasp an understanding of the key differences in business practices across cultures. Students will also visit business leaders and major business locations on each continent.
The Europe option is will be held in Oxford and the Asia option will be held in Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Macau. Trip details subject to change.
Students, who are not able to attend one of these exciting options, will have the opportunity to supplement this experience with an international business course.

Students have the opportunity to build business connections, while building their leadership skills. Small classes provide an interactive learning experience that allows students to strengthen networking, team-building and interpersonal skills while defining their unique business visions. Practical Program with Practical Applications
Designed for the working adult, MBA classes are scheduled one evening per week for eight weeks each to allow students to pursue their careers while also pursuing their degree. Candidates complete one or two courses at a time, enabling them to focus their energies and valuable time while balancing professional and personal obligations.
Classes closely model real-world working environments, in which actual cases are discussed to illustrate the connections between coursework and the workplace by recreating the boardroom in the classroom, courses motivate students to think, react and function like managers. Studies culminate in an interdisciplinary final project, in which students develop solutions to challenges within their current workplaces.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
The highest ranking organizational officer responsible for managing the overall organization and reporting to the Board of Directors and/or owners.
Certified Fraud Examiners (CFE)
Certified Fraud Examiners can be found in a wide range of government, corporate, and private settings. They prevent, investigate, and help prosecute fraud and mismanagement. Fraud examiners may also help victims recover fraud losses through asset tracking and civil remedies.
Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Primarily responsible for financial planning, reporting and record-keeping of the organization.
Certified Internal Auditors (CIA)
Certified Internal Auditors work within companies to assure accurate financial reporting and compliance with company rules and regulations, industry standards, and legal requirements.

1. What is Jabs?
The Jabs MBA is named for the namesake of the Dr. Robert K. Jabs School of Business. Find out more about Dr. Robert K. Jabs.
2. What are the program’s entry dates and application deadline?
The MBA offers a rolling admission policy, and accepts students for the Fall (September), Spring (January) or Summer (May) semesters.
Students are strongly encouraged to have their application files, including all needed documentation, completed at least two months prior to the start of the semester.
3. How long does the admission process take?
Once an application file is complete, applicants will typically be notified of a decision within 7-10 business days
4. What are the prerequisites?
The prerequisites for entering the Jabs MBA program are: Principles of Accounting I, Statistics, Marketing, and a Computer Applications course. Applicants may be able to substitute substantial, relevant work experience for prerequisites. 21 additional units of Accounting are required for the Accounting concentration.
5. What is the GPA requirement?
Admission is considered in totality considering GPA, GMAT score, essay, resume, interview, and individual considerations. Since one number cannot completely define you, we consider the total admissions packet when making admissions decisions.
6. Is the GMAT required?
The Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) is the most common admissions metric used by top business schools. We require it for all applicants to allow us to compare our program with other top graduate business programs.
7. Is your MBA program accredited?
Yes. CBU’s MBA program is regionally accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and professionally accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) – the premier accreditor for teaching-focused business programs. CBU is proud to be among the top 10% of all business programs to hold professional accreditation.
8. How long does the program take to complete?
The length of the program may vary for each student. Students may take as little as 12 months to complete the program full time. Full-time working professionally typically complete the program in 24 months.
9. When do classes meet?
The MBA is designed to accommodate the busy schedules of working professionals. All classes meet one evening per week either on Tuesdays or Thursdays in our new state-of-the-art School of Business Building on our main campus. Ample free parking is available immediately adjacent to the building.
10. What concentrations does the MBA offer?
There are currently two concentrations – management and accounting. To meet the ever changing demands of the market, we are in the process of adding additional concentrations in the near future. All programs have eight core courses and four courses in the area of concentration.
11. Am I required to have work experience to enter the program?
No. However, CBU’s Jabs MBA program is designed for the working professional looking to advance professionally. Students from a variety of experience and backgrounds are integrated into classes to maximize networking and learning across generations, cultures, and industry specialties.
12. How does the Fast-track Option work?
CBU undergraduates in the last semester of their senior year can apply to take their first two MBA courses prior to graduation. These courses are taught as post-bachelorette courses and as such, graduate financial aid is not available. However, the courses may be included in block-tuition pricing if a student is enrolled in less than 18 units.
